Daily Living and Independence
Many adults with learning disabilities benefit from practical support with everyday tasks. This may include help with cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping, budgeting, attending appointments, keeping a routine, managing personal belongings and organising the home. Where possible, we encourage the person to be involved in daily decisions and build skills at a pace that feels realistic and safe for them.

Emotional Wellbeing And Routine
Support with motivation, reassurance, daily structure and positive routines, especially for adults who may feel anxious, isolated or unsettled.

Personal Care Where Applicable
Support with personal care may be considered where this forms part of the person’s assessed needs and agreed care arrangements.

Community Access
Help to attend appointments, visit family, go shopping, access local services, take part in activities and build confidence outside the home.

Confidence And Independence
Practical support to help adults build confidence with life skills, decision-making, appointments, budgeting, routines, communication and personal goals.

Tenancy And Home Responsibilities
Guidance with bills, reporting maintenance issues, keeping the home organised, understanding responsibilities and developing confidence around independent living.
Safe, Respectful And Person-Centred Support
Every care and support plan is built around the individual’s assessed needs, risks, goals and preferences.
We focus on dignity, safety, clear communication and regular review. Our team aims to provide support that feels respectful, reliable and suitable for each person’s circumstances.
Where regulated activity applies, services will be delivered in line with applicable care standards, legal requirements and relevant regulatory expectations.
Working With Families and Professionals
Choosing the right supported living service is an important decision. Families want reassurance that their loved one will be understood, respected and properly supported. Professionals need clear information before making a referral, placement enquiry or funding decision.
Our team can discuss the person’s needs, explain the pre-assessment process and advise whether our service may be suitable.
Although we are based in Northfleet, we can discuss wider enquiries where the person’s needs, placement suitability and support arrangements may be appropriate.
Pre-Assessment Before Support Begins
Before any support starts, we complete a pre-assessment to understand whether Windmill Lodge may be suitable for the person’s needs. The pre-assessment may look at:
- Daily living needs
- Personal care needs, where applicable
- Communication needs
- Mobility and physical support needs
- Mental health and emotional wellbeing
- Medication support needs, where agreed
- Risks and safeguarding needs
- Independence skills
- Family and professional involvement
- Desired outcomes and personal goals
The purpose of the assessment is to make sure support is planned carefully and responsibly from the start.
What Learning Disability Support Can Include
Our learning disability support can include:
Care Planning Starts Before A Placement Is Agreed
A successful placement starts with the right information. Before we agree any support arrangement, we complete a pre-assessment to understand the person’s needs and whether Windmill Lodge Supported Living is the right fit.
We look at the person’s current situation, daily living needs, risks, communication style, wellbeing, independence skills and support history. We also consider professional input where relevant, especially when a social worker, commissioner, healthcare team or family member is involved.
This helps us build a realistic support plan and avoid placing someone into an arrangement that does not meet their needs.

Support Planned Around Each Person
No two people need support in exactly the same way. Some adults may need help building daily routines. Others may need guidance with communication, appointments, budgeting, meal planning, personal organisation or community access.
At Windmill Lodge, support is planned around what the person can do, where they may need help and what they want to work towards.
The aim is to provide the right level of guidance while helping each person feel safe, respected and more confident in everyday life.
